5 TikTok Trends That I Love

It’s no surprise that TikTok has become the new “it girl.” Whether you’re using TikTok as a Google replacement to view your new favorite product, staying up to date with pop culture news, or simply scrolling for some comedic relief, everyone is on TikTok for a reason.

So… what is a trend?

It’s important to understand how a trend starts. Syft Media briefly describes a TikTok trend as a type of video that can be recreated by other users very easily and made personal. In summary, a trend is basically a chain reaction to multiple creators utilizing the same feature on the platform (audio, filters, etc.)

Okay... here are some of my favorites

[insert Mariah Carey’s squealing voice] it’s TIIIMMEEEE

The holidays are right around the corner and Mariah Carey is “defrosting” as we speak. Therefore, ‘it’s time’ to turn up the holiday music, break out those decorations, and drink some hot cocoa.

Whatcha Say???

Sticking with the holiday theme, at a dinner with extended family, it seems to be an inevitable occurrence for someone to ask a very direct question about your personal life. The trend is accompanied by text, “when someone asks…” and shows the person being asked the question storming away from the dinner table.

“It would be so awesome… it would be so cool”

This audio is more cute than funny. The trend is focused around convincing someone to do something that you’d like. For example, user @triplep1234 tries to convince their mom to let them stay home and take depression naps all day.

Hacker: Send me $1,000 or I will leak your iCloud photos

The use of this audio is comical. Although it's pretty self explanatory, I think it’s funny (even relatable) to see what people are hiding in their camera roll. Let’s just say if my iCloud photos got leaked, there’d be lots of 2014 Tumblr aesthetic photos floating around… nothing to see here.

Last Christmas x Alright by Kendrick Lamar

Talk about catchy!! Everytime this audio comes up on my FYP (for you page) a boost of serotonin instantly hits me. There are a variety of ways this audio has been used but one way in particular explains a permanent decision. For example, @venusasagirll says “me when I realize I can’t spend all my money on Starbucks and clothes because I have bills to pay.” Girl, same.

As we enter the new year, I’m excited to see what new trends will appear.
